Mucophagist

Mucophagist is the newest release by the fantastic, the kick-butt band Strangled By Strangulation (Art Bertik and Pascual Romero).  This track features musical greats
Björn Englen on bass (Quiet Riot, Yngwie Malmstein, Soul Sign), Danny Walker on drums (Intronaut, Murder Construct, Phobia), Molly Daisy on vocals (Bloody Phoenix, Starfish) and Brent Wisdom on lead guitar (GrimWolf, 13oClock Productions).

I got hooked immediately after their deliciously pleonastically-titled track Killed to Death by Death, a deliberate dose of death metal parody with exquisite melodies!

So what is a mucophagist?

According to Wikipedia, a mucophagist is any organism that consumes mucus, be it wet or dry. I’m a duck, so according to Wikipedia I  never eat my own boogers.  But I digress.

Lets talk about the cover now. The artwork is a play on Slayer's legendary South Heaven, designed by the talented Larry Carroll . No relation to Lewis Carroll or Hattie Carroll (as far as I know).

Frankly, I was a little spooked by all the demons pictured in the piece, so I decided to make demon babies instead.

I included a cave setting instead of the apocalyptic city background Carroll depicted, because after all, demons chill out in caves.

Because I’m a fan of other animals, I included some of my favorites in there. You can see an olm, a type of blind amphibian and a giantcave millipede.  The reason they appear pale is because their ancestors evolved in caves, where light is absent so there is no need for protective melanin. It’s a type of reverse tan if you will.

I hope you enjoyed this small dissertation on the Mucophagist cover, now go and support emerging artists!
